Women of the Word
Welcome to the Women's Ministry page. WOW, study group meets year-round with weekly studies during the school year and with a less formal gathering in each of the summer months. Our small group comes together to learn the truths of scripture and how to apply them to our daily lives. Women from all walks of life are welcome! Check out the upcoming studies below.
WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY LEADER: TERRY LAPORTA
Terry is a native New Yorker. She and her husband Larry moved to CT in 2006 to be near their children and nine grandchildren. Terry’s love for her Savior and His Word compels her to teach what she has learned from many excellent teachers to all age groups. Her primary function at FBCW is to lead as many women as are willing to discover God’s truth for themselves. As a former preschool teacher, she also enjoys working with children, leading them to a knowledge of God’s love for them. Her motto for ministry is Ps. 115:1 “Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to Your Name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.”
Summer Project - One Another
We finished our study on prayer this past week, learning about drawing near to Gods’ heart, being persistent and passionate about prayer, worshiping, thanking, and praising Him throughout our prayer time, having a clean slate before Him, and trusting in His promises.
For our summer project, everyone is asked to look at the
One Another passages, studying them with every tool they have, implementing them as the opportunities arise, and then reporting back to each other at a gathering at the end of July. Time and place to be announced.
If you haven’t received your copy for the project, they are available at the Welcome Center.
All ladies are invited to join the women's retreat on Saturday, October 9, 10 am - 4:30 pm. The topic will be Christian meditation. The cost is $36.00 per person which includes beverages and lunch, and a beautiful venue.
Meditating on God's Word
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day. Psalm 91:1-16
Meditation is a way of internalizing God’s Word - taking it deep into our hearts so that the Holy Spirit can work through it to guide, teach, purify, and transform us from within.
